This page acts as my running training log. Hope this will illustrate how giving your body the proper fuel can help you accomplish all of your fitness goals!
So far my racing career has been fairly limited, as I just started seriously running a few months back. For comparison however, in March 2008, I was uncomfortable run/walk/jogging 15 mi/miles. Today I’m running 8:30ish min/mile paces in my races (averaging ~9:30 min/mi on my daily runs).

Hosed off after the Mud Maxx 5k: June 13, 2009
January 18, 2009:
EP 5k (ran in conjunction with Houston Marathon)
Goal: <30 min
Result: 26:50
Placement: 13/294 (division); 454/2821 (overall)
February 19, 2009:
Park to Park 5 mile Run
Goal: none really set for this run, just was using it as warm-up
Result: 42:09 (8:26 min/mi)
Placement: 8/39 (division); 251/631 (overall)
Note: This also served as the TX State 5 mile Championship run
February 28, 2009:
ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run 10k
Goal: <60 min
Result: 52:31 (8:27 min/mi)
Placement: 51/450 (division); 236/2077 (female); 1206/4605 (overall)
March 8, 2009:
BagelFest ‘09 5k (Austin, TX)
Goal: <26 min
Result: 29:09 (9:21 min/mi)
Placement: 10/22 (division); 77/190 (female); 216/412 (overall)
Note: hilly and ran with injured arch (not recommended…)
March 14, 2009:
HEB Bayou City 10K
Goal: <52 min
Result: Did not run, feeling sick combined with 40F/raining…learned my lesson from last week to not push it…there will be other races!
Note: I did run approx. 10k the following day at non-race pace in ~58 min, race pace would have put me at about the same pace as the Rodeo Run…
March 28, 2009:
4th Annual S.C.O.P.E Fun Run 5k
Goal: to have fun…Katy Relay for Life is the evening before, so running truly for fun!
Result: 26:06 (8:25 min/mi)
Placement: 83/286 (overall); 6/47 (age group 20-29)
Notes: No arch pain
Also, chilly race morning of ~45F and windy (but quite sunny)
April 11, 2009:
Mother’s for Clean Air 5k (run in support of Earth Day)
Goal: <26 min
Result: 25:59.5 (8:22 min/mi)…haha…beat it…no matter by how small an increment!
Placement: 138/453 (overall); 44/254 (women); 9/45 (age group)…updated on 4/12 to reflect I now placed 10/51 (I started in 8th place…darn chip timing…)
Notes: great run, little humid and windy at the end, but I got through it! Here’s to you Grandma S!
April 19, 2009:
1st Annual Spring Filly 5k
Goal: unknown at this time, maybe 25:30 is achievable?
Have to pull out for Grandma S’s funeral
April 25, 2009:
Houston Rise and Shine 5k run and walk
Goal: <25:50 min (or better than last race…hopefully it won’t be too hot…)
Result: 27:05 (8:41 min/mi)
Placement: 139/498 (overall); 37/235 (women); 9/55 (division)
May 16, 2009:
Girls on the Run Houston Wondergirl 5k
Goal: <26 min
Result: 28:08 (9:04 min/mi)
Placement: 10/128 overall; 4/11 (division; F 20-29)
Notes: This race is for an organization that helpsĀ “to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.” Sounds like a great cause, one that I can stand up for and I’m glad the race is in my neighborhood too! Race day conditions were 75F, 80% humidity, no wind. Also, only one water stand along the course…
May 30, 2009:
Astros Race for the Pennant 5k
Goal: <27 min
Result: 26:34 (8:34 min/mi); 16/233 age group; 479/1930 overall
Note: I don’t have great placements for this race officially, they associated me with the wrong bib #. I searched for my bib # (1904, not 1704) to get my time and pace (with an incorrect name, I guess I’m now named Regina…and have aged 10 years to be 37). But, I beat my goal and now have a “summer” record to strive to beat in the heat!
June 6, 2009:
Heights Fun Run (5k)
Goal: not sure…to pace myself and not pass out will probably be the theme of the summer goals!
Result: 26:57 (8:51 min/mi); 21/165 (age group: 20-29); 379/1180
Note: This should be a great introduction to my new neighborhood, we are in the process of closing on our first house in the neighborhood later in June! Also, my right shin and ankle has been bothering me, I was running slower to not aggravate the possible injury…
June 13, 2009:
1st Annual Mud Maxx (5kish muck run)
Goal: None! Untimed fun to get muddy!
Achieved: 35:10 (in first big pack of people)
Note: This is a fun muddy run to get as muddy and nasty as possible…an obstacle course of sorts as well, should be a great time!
June 20, 2009:
Chocolate Miracle Race (Hershey, PA)
Goal: <26:30 min
Achieved: 27:08 officially, but no chip timing; pouring down rain (literally buckets…)
Note: Running the race when I’m going home to PA to visit my Dad for his 60th birthday (which coincides with Father’s Day). Hopefully it will be cooler there than down here in Houston…
July 4, 2009:
Run Wild 5k
Goal: ~27 min
Achieved: 27:35 min; 17/106 (age group), 438/1288 (overall)
Note: Very hot race. It was in the high 80’s at race time with >70% humidity. By the end, it was honestly terribly hot and not fun…but after party had good treats (sadly, no ice cream, but iced Katz coffee)!
July 18, 2009:
31st Lunar Rendezvous Run
Goal: depending on heat…27:30 No real outlook for the heat dissipating anytime soon…
Actual: 28:47 (9:16 min/mi)…not too bad considering I was battling blisters from my new orthopedics! Places me 6/19 in age group and 67/208 (female), 232/464 overall (exactly in the middle…hrm…)
Notes: Blisters, blistering heat, humidity, why do they start 5k’s 30minutes past comfortable time in the summer???
October 3, 2009:
Susan Komen Race for the Cure 5k
Goal: have fun/survive jog to and from race + race
Result: 25:48 (8:16 min/mi); 39/364 age group; 740/4100 overall
Note: I ran 2.75 miles as a warm-up to the race and again 2.75 miles from the race as cool-down. My mileage for the day with team was to be 10 miles, of which I did 8.6 and set a PR on this 5k! Also, Mark set a PR too! He ran 26:24…wohoo!
November 15, 2009:
Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Half Marathon
Goal: I’m really aiming for <2 hours on this run, my first half
Actual: 2:37:16
Note: I ran this race <2 weeks after coming out of a boot for tendonitis in my ankle. Probably a stupid thing to do, but I was determined to finish…
November 26, 2009:
Sheltering Arms Turkey Trot 10k
Goal: None really, fun run to get some miles in before the feast began!
Actual: 1:08:xx
Note: Blistering IT Band pain kept me from running this at my fullest strength. Mark helped me out a lot along the way and it prompted me to get my issue looked into further…
January 17, 2010:
Chevron Houston Marathon (half…)
Goal: Not sure if I’m doing the full or half yet, but have registered to run with Team in Training. Look back in a few months and I’ll have a better idea of distance and time goals…*update: Due to mid-season injuries, we are going to step down to the half marathon to save our bodies for another day/race*
Actual: My actual goal was a negative split, accomplished negative split with time of 2:23:19
Upcoming Races:
February 27, 2010:
ConocoPhilips Rodeo Run (10k)
Goal: To beat last year’s time of 52:31, will be tough, but think I can handle it…
June 6, 2010:
Rock ‘n Roll San Diego Full Marathon
Goal: To finish…26.2 miles…
